Wilkie Gardens is an extra care housing development providing high quality, accessible accommodation to the local Galashiels community. Built on the derelict site of the old Langhaugh Mill and delivered by Cruden Building (formerly Hart Builders) on behalf of the Eildon Group, the facility contains 39 self-contained apartments made up of 35 one-bedroom and 4 two-bedroom units.
Funding for the development was provided through a £3 million Scottish Government grant and £1.8 million from Scottish Borders Council, with Eildon Group investing more than £3.5 million.
Not only does the facility provide much needed accommodation and support to assist older people live independently for as long as possible and remain part of the community, but it has also created more than 30 jobs.
Veitchi Frame’s installation team based themselves nearby for the duration of the contract contributing additional spending to the local area and ensuring excess travel was minimal, reducing our environmental impact.
