Veitchi Frame delivered the lightweight steel frame package for an Extra Care housing development in Hebburn on behalf of Robertson Construction. Completed over a 24-week programme and spanning a floor area of 10628m2, the structural solution incorporated 217 tonnes of cold rolled steel and 95 tonnes of hot rolled steel, supporting a high-quality build delivered to programme.
Delivered in partnership with Robertson Group, South Tyneside Council and JDDK Architects, the finished development provides 95 affordable homes designed to support older people with varying care needs, alongside communal facilities that enhance residents’ wellbeing and independent living.
The challenge
Maintain programme certainty across a large structural scope while managing sequencing between concrete works, lightweight steel framing, and timber roof truss installation — with safety, quality, and coordination across multiple stakeholders central throughout.
Our approach
Coordinated installation planning aligned to programme milestones from first pour through to roof level
- Programme-led erection of the light gauge steel frame to maintain consistent progress across the site
- Sequenced logistics and deliveries to support efficient installation and minimise downtime
- Close collaboration with the wider project team to integrate follow-on activities, including roof trusses
The result
The project was delivered in line with the agreed programme, with key outputs including:
- 950 roof trusses installed
- 10,000m+ of carcassing timber used
The completed scheme provides much-needed Extra Care housing, delivering modern, supported independent living for the local community.
