Veitchi Frame Partners with Ogilvie Construction on New Bonnyrigg Care Facility
Veitchi Frame is working alongside Ogilvie Construction on the development of a care facility in Bonnyrigg, Midlothian. The project aims to deliver a 40-bedroom care complex, 46 extra-care flats, all built to Passivhaus green-energy standards. The development is being built on behalf of the Midlothian Health and Social Care Partnership and Midlothian Council.
Veitchi Frame’s Contribution to Structural Integrity
Veitchi Frame is responsible for delivering the structural framing for two main units: the Extra Care Unit and the Intermediate Care Unit. By providing both cold-rolled and hot-rolled steel solutions, Veitchi Frame ensures the project is structurally sound and meets the technical specifications required for this type of care facility.
- Polton St, Extra Care Unit:
- Floor area: 4,540 m²
- Cold-rolled steel: 15,066 meters
- Hot-rolled steel: 40 tonnes
- Programme duration: 12 weeks
- Project value: £1,200,000
- Polton St, Intermediate Care Unit:
- Floor area: 3,139 m²
- Cold-rolled steel: 13,722 meters
- Hot-rolled steel: 50 tonnes
- Programme duration: 10 weeks
- Project value: £1,000,000
These structural elements provide the necessary framework to ensure stability and long-term durability. The use of over 28,788 meters of cold-rolled steel and 90 tonnes of hot-rolled steel reflects the scale and complexity of the project. Veitchi Frame’s off-site fabrication allows for efficient assembly and streamlined delivery, contributing to an effective build programme.
Commitment to Sustainability
The development adheres to Passivhaus standards, which are designed to reduce energy consumption and environmental impact. Both Veitchi Frame and Ogilvie Construction are committed to delivering a project that aligns with these principles, with an emphasis on sustainable construction methods and energy-efficient design.
Grier Edmead, Operations Director of Ogilvie Construction, commented:
“We are working closely with Veitchi Frame and Midlothian Council to ensure that the project is delivered to a high standard, in line with Passivhaus requirements.”
Progress and Future Outlook
Scheduled for completion in 2026, the Bonnyrigg Care Facility will address key healthcare and housing needs in the area. Veitchi Frame’s contribution to the structural elements of the project is central to ensuring that the facility meets the necessary quality and safety standards.
This partnership reflects Veitchi Frame’s ongoing commitment to delivering reliable, efficient solutions in the construction of healthcare and social care facilities.
